A two-day lotus festival in a Far Eastern atmosphere, in the Szeged Botanical Garden

Although it is native to the southern and southeastern regions of the temperate zone of Asia, it was the result of several lucky coincidences and proper care that it was able to remain here in Szeged as an ornamental food and medicinal plant in its homeland. At the bottom of the artificially created lake, the water temperature is around 20 degrees in winter and summer, so the plant survives the freezing weather. In ancient Eastern religions, this exotic plant, which only shows its leaves in May and is referred to as a symbol of purification and rebirth, produces its pink, magnificent, richly scented flowers in July, which create a magical atmosphere in harmony with their rounded leaves that spread over the surface of the water. In addition to the numerous innovations of 2014, visitors can also admire the Japanese garden, which includes a lotus pond, which has been forged into an organic unit since its handover in May, under the green auspices of the Botanical Garden.

The main pillars of the two-day event are: traditional Indian and Far Eastern dance performances, yoga and martial arts presentations, Thai massage, traditional Japanese tea ceremony and tasting of excitingly fragrant and spicy gastronomic delicacies. In addition to the usual programs, however, we have selected the repertoire for the interested and loyal audience that returns year after year with a new impetus. This year's novelty is the traditional Chinese Lion Dance presentation on Saturday afternoon, and on Sunday the TAIKO Hungary Drum Group will come to the Lotus Days event with original, beautiful-sounding traditional Japanese drum solos and pieces. In the cashier's building at the main entrance, you can not only listen to lectures on lifestyle counseling and astrology, but also host a bonsai exhibition by a nationally known studio in the capital.

In addition to the stage programs on the green lawn, anyone can try their hand at yoga studios and martial arts stands in various genres. We entertain the little ones with a variety of crafts: they can make a lotus fairy, a silk picture, a lotus souvenir, string pearls and even take home scented creams.
